Take Action

Anything you do to support kids and parents can help reduce the stress that often leads to abuse and neglect. If you would like to get involved, please email us at preventchildabusenevada@unlv.edu or call us at 702-895-1040.

What You Can Do!

  • Be a friend to a parent you know
  • Ask how their children are doing
  • Draw on your own experiences to provide reassurance and support.
  • If a parent seems to be struggling, offer to babysit or run errands, or just lend a friendly ear.
  • Show you understand.
  • Be a friend to a child you know.
  • Remember their names.
  • Smile when you talk with them.
  • Ask them about their day at school.
  • Send them a card in the mail. Show you care.
  • Talk to your neighbors about looking out for one another’s children.
  • Encourage a supportive spirit among parents in your apartment building or on your block. Show that you are involved.
  • Give used clothing, furniture and toys for use by another family. This can help relieve the stress of financial burdens that parents sometimes take out on their kids
  • Volunteer your time and money to programs in your community that support children and families, like parent support groups or daycare centers.

Volunteer

  • Administrative/Clerical Work
    Assist with general clerical work, including answering the phone, data entry, copying, collating, and preparing supplies for public events (outreach or special events).
  • Community Events/Outreach
    Staff events, exhibitions, and/or presentations.
  • For outreach, volunteers will staff booths at local fairs/events with information on our many programs and services.
  • Public Awareness
    Take PCA NV literature to public sites and community events
  • Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign
    1. Give presentations within the community on ways to get involved in our statewide public awareness campaign, Pinwheels for Prevention
    2. Distribute Pinwheels as need to local communities and help organize and provide support for Pinwheels for Prevention events around the state.
  • Children’s Week at the Legislature
    1. Assist in the overall coordination of events, such as securing transportation, hotel rooms, and food
    2. Creating materials for distribution or onsite signage for event
  • Legislative Advocacy
    Track state and federal legislation and/or research specific issues and draft summary reports. Volunteers also assist with planning, logistics, scheduling and arrangements for our annual legislative conference.
  • Fundraising Programs
    Plan and execute events, solicit donors, and research grant opportunities.
  • Conferences
    Finalize any registration information, compile materials for participants, and staff conference functions
  • Step Up for Kids Campaign
    1. Assist in the overall coordination of events
    2. Creating materials for distribution as well as signage for event
  • Volunteer Coordination
    1. Coordinate all volunteer activity to ensure there are an appropriate number of volunteers assisting in any of the functions listed above
    2. Ensure volunteers adhere to the guidelines, policies and procedures set forth in the PCANV Volunteer Handbook
